OPTION B

"Option A is not available.  So let's kick the s--- out of Option B!"  This is what was told to Author/Speaker and Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg.  She writes about it in her book OPTION B.

Ms. Sandberg's husband had passed away unexpectedly and it was at a father/child event at school where a friend told her the above quote.

We don't go through life ever expecting Option B.

We don't plan for it.  Look for it.  Want it.  But sometimes, Option A is no longer available.

I have talked about how my "Option A" was challenged last year.

I am now living in my "Option B."

Although grief and grieving is a process (we discussed the topic of GOOD GRIEF in an earlier blog), everyone that has gone through a loss, processes the loss in their own way.

I saw an interview with Ms. Sandberg and she made this observation (it's also in her book).  There are "3 P's" to avoid when going through grief recovery:

  • Personalization - the belief YOU are at fault
  • Pervasiveness - the belief that it will affect every area of your life
  • Permanence - the belief that the aftershocks of the event will last forever
Are you going through or dealing with an Option B in your life?  You can still have a BEST YEAR YET....even with Option B.

Look for JOY moments.  Find them, mark them and come back to them.  Sometimes the best way to discover the JOY moments is to UNCOVER them.

HOW?

Be observant to those things that you are grateful for.  UNCOVER them, DAILY.  Get into the habit of writing them down.  I like to do this at night.  I reflect on the day and then look for those things that have truly put JOY in my life.

For some of us, Option A is no longer available.  It's time we all MAXIMIZED OPTION B!

Maybe you are still operating in Option A.  I hope and pray you are.  IF you are in Option A, look to see how you can help those in Option B LIVE their lives to the full.

BEST YEAR YETs are always better together!
