"If you build it, he will come." Field of Dreams
I'm sure many of you have either seen the movie, "Field of Dreams," or at least have heard this most famous quote from the movie.
There is a "voice" that tells Ray Kinsella this and Ray interprets this to mean that he should tear up part of his corn field (how he makes a living by the way) and build a baseball field for the "ghosts of great players from baseball past."
It's a great movie and should be on everyone's list of movies to watch.
Today, the plot of that movie is not our subject.....the title is!
Do you have a FIELD OF DREAMS?
No, I'm not talking about a baseball field cut out of a corn field. I'm talking about a "place" where you have your DREAMS and you take diligent care of those DREAMS.
I'm not a farmer, but I want us to think like one for our illustration:
- A farmer prepares his soil before he plants seed for his crop
- When looking at your DREAMS, how diligent are you in the preparation phase?
- Do you "stir yourself up" or "till the soil" of your life so that you are ready?
- After planting, the farmer makes sure that the "seed" gets food and water (proper nutrition)
- Are you nurturing the DREAM? Constantly "feeding and watering" the ideas, actions and all that is needed to see results?
- While the crop is growing, the farmer watches out for anything that would try to come and destroy the crop (bugs; animals; etc)
- Are you protecting your DREAM from forces that would try to destroy it? Sometimes those forces come at your DREAMS from the outside...sometimes from inside your own head.
- Be diligent to protect the DREAM
- When it's time to HAVEST, the farmer works long hours to get the crop in so that he can maximize the yield
- When it's time to implement your plan for your DREAM, give it everything you've got to maximize what you have in your heart to do!
As you continue on your BEST YEAR YET journey, think about your FIELD OF DREAMS. If you don't have one right now, look to "plow" up some land (in your mind and heart) and begin to build out that DREAM that you have.
Remember, "If you will build it, he (YOU and your DREAMS) will come!"
