TRY

TRY.

So, the other day, I see a Facebook friend share a link from the TV Show, AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.  I don't remember all the text that they wrote, but it went something like, "INCREDIBLE!  Bring Tissues."  Or something to that affect.

So I click on the link and watch a quick story of the girl in the picture above, Mandy Harvey before she does her audition on the show.

Mandy is 29 and when she was 18, due to sickness, she lost all of her hearing.  She was a singer since the age of 4.  After losing her hearing, she said she gave up.

But she picked herself back up and taught herself to sing again using a visual tuner and muscle memory.

She was asked what song she would sing for her audition and she said it was a song she wrote called, "TRY."  The reason she wrote it, as she said, "I want to do more with my life than just give up."

After watching this incredibly talented person sing, I thought to myself, "this derails ANY excuse train!"

Just today, I had a conversation with a co-worker who is very competitive.  In our conversation, he mentioned about running a half marathon, because he said his age and his knees and...blah, blah, blah.  I thought of Mandy.

I told him, "You can have results or excuses, just not both."

I went on to tell him about my knees and how I had surgery to remove 75% of the meniscus in my right knee....4 years BEFORE I began to run.  I basically told him that he was standing in the "NO EXCUSE ZONE!"

We all can look at so many things that we could use as an excuse as to why we can't TRY:

  • I'm too young
  • I'm too old
  • I have bad knees
  • I can't see
  • I can't hear
  • I don't have the money
  • I'm not good enough
  • And on and on and on and on.....
How about you GO.FOR.IT!

Don't settle.  DON'T GIVE UP!

There's another saying that says, "If it's important to you, you'll find a way.  If not, you find an excuse."

How about today, you find a way.
