MARATHON MINDSET

In less than a week, I being training for the next marathon I will run.

18 week training schedule that will lead up to the NEBRASKA MARATHON.

This will be the 9th time I have set out to run 26.2 miles.  Each training....each race....carry with them a different set of challenges.

There is a MINDSET that one must have in order to take on a marathon.

I have heard of people who go out, on a dare, and attempt to run the 26.2 miles, without any real training, and they struggle....some make it to the finish and some don't.

Although, each race is different (it could even be the exact same course, but the day of the race is always different), there are principles....MINDSETS.....that if you train and prepare for, you will be in better position to realize your goals.

It is very similar to most everything in life, whether we are talking about personal goals, or business goals.  Having a MARATHON MINDSET will position you to hit your targets.

MARATHON MINDSET:

  • HAVE AN EXECUTABLE PLAN
    • Give yourself an achievable timeframe to hit your goal
    • The more time you have to prepare, the better you'll be
      • One thing to consider; many will prolong this phase due to being afraid of the "what if it doesn't go well?"  Don't be like this.
  • STICK TO THE PLAN
    • It's one thing to HAVE a plan and another thing to FOLLOW the plan
      • Be DISCIPLINED to the plan
      • The better you stick to the plan, the more likely you have what you are going after
      • I have worked with business owners who have told me what their goal or target is; they have what appears to be an executable plan, but they fail to stick to the plan thinking they can shortcut the process and still get the results
      • No shortcuts with a MARATHON MINDSET
  • MAKE ADJUSTMENTS ALONG THE WAY
    • There might be times when you have to check your progress and if you are not where you want to be, adjust your actions
    • There is a saying that says, "If you are not on pace to hit your goals, don't change the goal, change your actions."
  • MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS
    • So many "things" will be challenging for your time
    • Have a checklist / system for your process
  • TRUST THE TRAINING
    • When it's time to "RUN," realize that what you have done has positioned you to achieve your goals....TRUST THE TRAINING
    • In natural marathons, I've seen people get all stressed out the week or so before the race; did I run enough?  Can I do it?
    • Same holds true in business and in personal goals
      • If you have prepared yourself, then trust that process and take on what is in front of you
So, whether you are running a marathon race or the marathon of life, if you stick to these principles, you will put yourself in position to achieve your goals.

Now, go out and RUN YOUR RACE!
